Consumers use search engines to find information about a service or product they need or want. These are all great sites that have a multitude of great reasons for using them, the problem is everyone is using them. A business needs to either optimize his use of them, or find a site that his competition is NOT using to distance himself from them in the search engine algorithm. The search engines Have to place someone at the top of the first page, if everything else is to all appearances equal, it can often happen that a seemingly insignificant or obscure link that no one else is using can be the difference between simply being on the first page and being at the top of the first page.
I recently discovered a site called goanimate.com and while it is a site that appears to be intended as entertainment, and it IS FUN and entertaining, it also seems to have the potential to be the type of site mentioned above. Not only is it not often being used for business, it is specifically NOT being used by my local competition. It is certainly worth taking some time to experiment with to determine if it has any bearing on where my clients and I fall in the search results. Trial and error combined with deductive reasoning and networking with other likeminded SEO experts is the best way to figure out what will work to keep our clients on top of the SERP’s in the months to come.
